On Saturday afternoon, we watched two episodes of Cake Boss. The little angel reaffirmed her desire to own her own cake shop when she grows up. On Sunday morning, we discovered that baking supplies were hella on sale. Let the caking begin.
We bought a spring-themed baby-cake (BABYCAKES!) mold and chocolate and white cake mix. I took some photos of some things and some photos of other things, and, because I am so totally not a food blogger, nothing is in order and I didn't remove ugly parts of my house from the photos. Oops.
We had to cut the tops off of these to make them lie flat, just like Cake Boss himself would do. The little angel raged around the kitchen for a few minutes demanding fondant.
Then we realized we had no food coloring. So I added strawberry ice cream topping to white frosting to make pink.
Pretending to be a food blogger taking weird-angle photos of my food. However, I've done several things wrong here. 1) I didn't remove the Diet Mountain Dew can from the foreground. 2) I didn't remove ANY of the crap on my countertop from the background. 3) I didn't use attractive, spring-themed towels under my cookie-drying rack. Because I don't have any.
Once the bottoms are cut off and the cakes can lie flat, they are super-cute. The molds are much easier to see without icing. However, seriously, cake without icing is a MUFFIN. And we are making CAKE.
Not exactly professional, but they are yummy anyway. Also: note to self -- don't frost the sides.
