Owning Hostile, Confused and Messy
The New Jersey Star Ledger reviewed Sleep Is for the Weak in print and online. The review was positive, but my favorite part was when Carrie Stetler called us confused, hostile, insecure and messy.
The moms -- including Alice Bradley of "Finslippy," who lives in Jersey -- are confused, hostile, insecure and filled with messy, overwhelming love. But they're never dull or trite.
I'm actually not upset about that quote, because that's what makes mommybloggers so real to us. That's what's different about us, what separates us from What to Expect or a parenting expert on television. That's what I love about my fellow bloggers, and it's why I wanted to capture that writing I loved so much in print form.
Yes, we're hostile, confused and insecure. Hell, yes. But we also do own it, and there is a certain grace that comes with accepting who you are and how hard this motherhood thing can be. If this is confused, hostile, and messy, then I'll take it.

This next part is mostly for my mother.
If you're interested in reading more reviews of our writing, The Parent Bloggers Network is running a review campaign over the next two weeks. See the reaction of the blogosphere nicely organized here. And thanks to Kristen and Julie who donated this review campaign. I will pay it forward when I can.
Also for my mother: Here's a link to the podcast from the Walt Bodine Show today.
