I have a ten-inch difference between my waist and my hips. No, my waist is not tiny -- my hips are big. This has been a huge problem for me in the world of girls' and womens' jeans for my entire life. If jeans fit my booty, the waist is at least three inches too big, creating a gap that can be used to hold raccoons.
When I was in high school and waists were high, boys used to wad up paper and use the back of my jeans as a basketball net during class. Even now, when waistlines are lower, I STILL have a gap, because if I pull the jeans down to where they fit at the waistband, the crotch sits somewhere above my knees. Not fun.
Enter the Lee Jeans no-gap waistband.
I went over to Lee about a month ago to talk a little bit about social media and what women want to hear about from companies. One thing we discussed was fit. Another thing we discussed was moms wanting to look at least halfway hip to the diggy dog in their jeans even as they are chasing preschoolers around the playground. It's hard for us moms, with our bad reputation for visible panty lines and darts and such. Left to our own devices, we might even peg our jeans or maybe wear something with a yoke. We mean well, but we don't have time to try on 85 pairs of jeans while our children scream "Mommy, I can see your UNDERWEAR!!!!" for the entire dressing room to hear.
They gave me the Emma No-Gap capris to try (see below). While there was a twee bit of give around the waistband, it was considerably less than normal. I wore these puppies to World of Fun amusement park on a 90-degree day. My underwear did not show. I was not uncomfortably hot (the denim is very thin - is thin the right word?). And at the end of a day of squatting, carrying a 36-pound four-year-old and attempting to get little plastic rings around Coke bottles, they were not all stretched out and hanging around my ankles. WINNER.
So! Women with hips, unite! Lee will give me a free pair of no-gap waistband pedal pushers or capris to mail to whomever can tell me their most embarrassing jeans-buying story in the comments by June 23. Give it your best shot.
Here are the choices if you win:
Emma No-Gap Capri
Gwen No-Gap Pedal Pusher
And might I say congratulations to Lee for using models who look more like me than say, Kate Moss. Bring on the bigger models, corporate America! We can't tell what your clothes really look like if you use those stick people.
