Looking for Christmas gift ideas? Do I have the present for you. Thanks, PBN! Sequoia Travel Company has a vehicle survival kit that rocks my world.
The kit includes:
Water and food:
First Aid and Shelter:
Lighting:
Tools and Communication:
Hygiene and Other:
My beloved, the little angel and I haven't been able to thoroughly road-test the kit, thank God, but we looked through the kit and had this to say about its contents:
Water and food:
Rita: Water: It is the source of life.
Beloved: It’s important. (changes channel)
Rita: Or a carful of sorority girls for three weeks.
Beloved: Easier than having to enroll in the army. Same thing without all the Iraq!
Rita: Everything but K-Y.
- Two thermal emergency blankets (silver and reflective)
Rita: Perfect for a NY rave.
Beloved: If you’re trying to signal in the space shuttle, you’ve come to the right place.
- Two rain ponchos
Rita: Beloved loves these so much that he sleeps in them.
Beloved: Nice touch.
- Two 6-hour hand warmers
Rita: Those aren’t pillows!
Beloved: If there are hand-warmers in here, this thing is the real deal.
Lighting:
- Two 12-hour light sticks
Rita: Paired nicely with the emergency blankets, you can get laid anywhere.
Beloved: Remember the wax matches? Much better.
- Windproof and waterproof matches
Rita: Blondie can still get her smoke on.
Tools and Communication:
- Crank radio/light and cell phone charger*
Rita: It’s a cell phone charger, too? I didn’t even notice that part. I’m pissed it has AM, because I have to travel with God’s gift to sports radio.
Beloved: What? No crank-up MP3 player? Seriously, easily the hit of the survival kit. (the little angel stole this and we had to dig it out from her treasure box)
- Gerber multi-function hardware tool
Rita: This is something with which I will hurt myself.
- Leather work gloves
Rita: She works hard for the money.
- Duct tape
Rita: Duct tape holds the universe together. And Beloved’s windshield wipers, when I first met him and he drove a Dodge Dynasty.
- Rope
Rita: All the better to catch our dinner with.
Hygiene and Other:
- Cleansing wipes
Rita: For that not-so-fresh feeling.
- Toilet paper
Rita: A woman helped with this.
- Notebook
Rita: Thank goodness, someone was thinking of me.
- Pen
- Playing cards
Rita: So you can kill each other over the Hearts score right before your face is eaten by wolves.

I have a crank radio and a crank flashlight. They have been great to have during a power outage and for use during tavel. I use them on camping trips as well. Everyone should have them avalible.

Thank you for the recommendation. I've been reading a lot lately about the importance of having a change of clothes in an emergency bag. Most bags you can buy on the internet don't have the room you'd need to carry a whole change of clothes. What would you suggest?
